kottke.org posts about 'highline'

Two bits of news about the High Line and its impending park.

1. Curbed has new renderings of what the park is going to look like. Here's phase 1 (Gansevoort St. to 20th) and phase 2 (21st to 30th). They're calling it a park but from the drawings it seems more like a glorified sidewalk.

2. Photos of the High Line taken last weekend show how much progress is being made on construction.

Curbed has some photos of the construction progress on the High Line. Compare and contrast with some photos I took in early 2004.

Photos of the construction of the park on the High Line in Manhattan. Here's an accompanying article. (thx, marshall)

Jake's got some photos of the in-progress development of the High Line in Manhattan. Lots of concrete. Here's what the High Line looked like a few years ago when I was up there.

Want to go apple picking without leaving Manhattan? There are three trees with ripe apples growing near where you get up on the High Line at 33rd Street.

Were you up on the High Line on Feb 20? Did you lose your digital camera? It's been found...claim it on Craigslist.

"Preliminary construction" will begin on the High Line Park in mid-February. Protective fences will be put up south of 20th Street, so it might be your last chance to see the High Line as it is and once was. Here are some photos I took of the High Line from a February 2004 excursion. (via gmist)

Both the NY Times and New York magazine have fall restaurant previews. The southwestern part of Chelsea (+ the Meatpacking) seems to be really jumping these days...lots of stuff happening on 10th Ave (i.e. my walk to Eyebeam most days): Batali, Morimoto, Cookshop, Colicchio, etc. Maybe with all the action over there, maybe the High Line park will work...

An update on the development of the High Line. The latest designs will be on display at the MoMA.
